About Us
The Los Angeles Black
Business Expo was founded in 1989 by Barbara Lindsey, who answered the
clarion call for African Americans to focus on building their own
businesses.
The first Expo was
held in a hotel ballroom and 1200 attendees responded. The next
year the Expo was moved to the Los Angeles Convention Center where it
has grown from the West Hall to the brand new Tom Bradley (South) Hall
and attracted tens of thousands of attendees.
Harold Hambrick
furthered the goals of the exhibiting and business community and urged
the corporation he worked for to take on the Expo. When that
business ended, he took over the Expo completely and now serves as its
president.
Luminaries from
California's Governors, Mayors, Actors, Authors and Athletes have
attendees as well as the all-important everyday customers that have
helped grow local businesses.
Open to everyone, the
Expo is designed to showcase businesses owned, operated and designed for
African Americans--a very profitable market.
With the help of
exhibitor and sponsor fees and as well as entrance fees, BBX has been
able to attract people from near and far. There is something for every
age demographic --from Kids World to Autoland to the Health Pavilion and
many more features and all are welcome.
